NTU Sports Club was officially launched in the Year 1991 with the aim of promoting all kinds of sports activities in NTU. Sports Club is under the umbrella of the Students' Union as a non-academic constituent club, together with other academic clubs belonging to the various schools (e.g. Accountancy and Business Club, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Club) and 2 other non-academic constituent clubs (Welfare Services Club and Cultural Activities Club). The Sports Club's management committee is into its 21st year running for 2011/2012.
Sports Club is passionate about promoting a diversity of sports activities. Our members are all active, fun-loving and aspiring. Year to year, NTU Sports Club has been actively involved in the organisation of a myriad of school and national sports events and we strive to be professional when it comes to executing them. Maybe you might have even joined us at our Surf n Sweat or our National Vertical Marathon before.
Sports Club, together with our 21 sub clubs, aspires to deliver a rich and dynamic sports lifestyle to all NTU students and public alike. With the wide variety of activities being offered, there's bound to be something for everybody's need.
Sports Club Business managers are expected to be amiable, persuasive and charismatic individuals. Our capable business managers take on the role of sourcing for sponsorship opportunities for NTU Sports Club and its events. Our Business Managers understand that sincerity and a warm smile can cause companies to eventually relent and sponsor generously. Despite the initial hard work, being a business manager must indeed be one of the most fulfilling tasks one can undertake.
The Publication Officers are well-versed in print-based software & processes. "Here!" is a publication of the Sports Club that is well received by NTU and the public alike. The Publication Officers will be the editor of the publication, having to oversee the canvassing of sponsors for the magazines and also having to look for reliable yet inexpensive printers. Licenses are also required to publish certain publications and it is the Publication Officer's job to ensure these are obtained.
Our publicity officers have an endless flow of creative juices to come up with interesting and eye-catching ideas to market NTU Sports Club and its events to the NTU Population and the public. Together with their sub- committee, the Publicity Officers will plan strategies to promote and publicise all the various club events, as well as display their artistic talent in the actual designing of T-Shirts, banners, posters, flyers and other publicity media.
The Media & IT Officers (MITO) maintain the Sports Club website and keep it frequently updated. MITOs strive to help promote Sports Club events through the use of technology. Enquires and comments via email are also handled by the MITOs. Videography, A/V Systems and necessary Local Networks during events are also handled by our talented IT-savvy officers.
Logistics Officers have to ensure that all equipment needed for the various events are prepared and set up in good time. During the event, Logistics Officers have to be on constant alert to cater to emergency logistical needs of the committee or event participants. Flexibility, adaptability and resourcefulness are key characteristics of the portfolio.
An Ex-Officio will be directly in charge of the 21 sub-clubs of NTU Sports Club. Ex-Officios will have to be very people-oriented, sensitive to the needs of everyone and yet firm when making important decisions. They will also have to ensure that administrative requirements are submitted on time wherever possible and provide whatever support the sub-clubs may need from the management committee.
The Honorary General Secretary (HGS), as the chief administrative officer of the club, will assist the President in the performing of all administrative duties. The HGS would be in charge of all official records and the awarding of weights under the HAS (Hall Allocation System). The HGS would also be the receiver and generator of all official correspondence between the club and other organisations both inside and outside of NTU.
The main difference between these two portfolios is that, while the Financial Controller is in charge of the main club account, the Assistant Financial Controller handles the accounts of the sub-clubs. The FC and AFC is responsible for the preparation of the budgeting of the club and its events and of the sub-clubs. The FCs would have to constantly monitor the work of the treasurers in the various committees or sub-clubs so as to ensure that all activities are carried out within the targeted amounts.
The Vice-President is the President's right-hand man. It is also a long-standing Sports Club tradition that the VP is the chairperson of the annual Sports Camp. To be VP, one must really be able to work under enormous pressure, aiding the President in all aspects large and small. Together with the President, he or she will help to set the vision for the club and motivate the other committee members to work towards a common goal.
The President is the one who sets the vision for the committee. Once elected, he or she would have to be well versed in the school's constitution and must also be able to advise the committee on the legal aspects of their respective portfolios. The President should be able to see things from a bird's eye view. He or she must be decisive, able to correctly analyze situations and then make critical decisions as soon as the need arises.
